“Wake up and Run” is an untimed 5k race that takes place every year in 15 Swiss towns. The idea is to get up early so that you can get off to a good start by running at 5.30 am. Thanks to our partnership with the race, our insureds have been able to benefit from a 50% discount on their registration fee since 2024. But whose idea was it to launch a race at 5.30 in the morning? We spoke to Morgane David, Project Manager for “Wake up and Run”.

Groupe Mutuel: How did you come up with the idea for the "Wake up and Run" race?

Morgane David: The event was founded in 2016. Our agency, Grand Chelem Event, took over the organisation in 2022. The idea was to promote an active and healthy lifestyle from the moment you wake up in the morning. We wanted people to enjoy a unique and friendly experience.

What made you decide to go running so early in the morning? Is sport so early in the morning good for you?

The race starts at 5.30 am. At this time of day, there is very little traffic, which guarantees maximum safety for all our runners. We believe that morning sport is a real “booster” for your health, giving you a great start to the day.

Do many people miss the race because they don’t hear their alarm clock?

Not necessarily, as most of our participants get up with a smile on their face. Even if the alarm clock can be a bit annoying, the atmosphere at our races is always very friendly. So there's no reason not to get up and enjoy it.

You are already active in 15 towns and cities throughout Switzerland. Do you have plans to expand into other cities?

Absolutely! It's a concept that is really catching on, so stay tuned… We could be coming to a town near you soon!

What categories are included in the 5k race?

We're offering a no-pressure race where there's no time limit or final ranking. Everyone can take part at their own pace, whether running or walking. The important thing is to enjoy the experience and to get moving together.

What is the "Wake up Box"?

This is our well-deserved reward at the end of the race, a breakfast full of surprises to recharge your batteries after the effort. We attach great importance to the origin of our products. That's why our box contains only Swiss products.

Why is it important for you to favour local products?

We tend to favour the local network by working with local bakers at various stages. Obviously it's a challenge every year to offer the most regional products possible, and sometimes we have to think more globally. However, everything we do is in line with our values, such as avoiding waste as much as possible and favouring high-quality Swiss products.

What's the best feedback you've had from runners?

We have one participant who completes all 15 stages every year. She tells us that she has rediscovered the benefits of sport and the pleasure of exercise. It's inspiring to see the positive impact our event has on people's lives.

How many participants do you have on average?

Numbers vary from stage to stage, but our races generally attract between 400 and over 1,400 participants, depending on the city and the profile of the event. Some of our stages are already must-do events for our participants, while others are just starting to take off. That's what makes each stage so exciting and unique!

For our insureds: take advantage of the 50% discount on your registration fee!
