General ward
A person staying in a room with more than two beds is hospitalised in the "general ward" of a hospital establishment. In principle, the insurer and hospital are bound by an agreement. Parties to an agreement agree to daily flat-rates which comprise all healthcare costs, including doctor expenses (LAMal/KVG, Art. 25.2e, 49)
Generic drugs
Copies of original drugs which are no longer protected by a patent. The generic drug contains the same active substances and has the same properties (effectiveness, indications, dosage) as the original drug. Since their price does not have to cover research costs, generic drugs are considerably cheaper (up to 70%) than the originals.
